Bimeda is proud to participate in the Irish Government's Africa Agri-Food Development Programme (AADP), which supports Irish companies to bring to life agri-focused commercial projects in Sub Saharan Africa. Qualifying projects must provide real and tangible benefits to local communities, while creating commercial opportunities in the region.
At a March 2023 event to publicise the initiative, Minister of State at The Department of Agriculture, Pippa Hackett, noted:
"The AADP programme cements partnerships between emerging African businesses and Irish agri-food businesses. It delivers long-term impacts by supporting the creation of sustainable agri-food companies in Africa."
Bimeda's latest project is focused on providing training and income-generation opportunities for smallholder fruit farmers in Kenya, via a novel approach to managing waste fruit produce, which simultaneously reduces methane emissions and generates a new protein source for livestock feed.
